Mozambican President Praises Extractive Sector Growth, Urges Focus on Sustainability

16 September 2024

The President of Mozambique, His Excellency Filipe Nyusi, commended the significant growth of the country’s extractive sector and emphasised the need for harmony with local communities. “The extractive sector in Mozambique has expanded considerably with the exploitation of mineral resources and hydrocarbons, but we have made every effort to ensure it does not become a source of conflict,” President Nyusi stated during the inauguration of the Joaquim Mara resettlement village, built by South African energy company Sasol in Inhassoro, Inhambane province, southern Mozambique.

President Nyusi also attended and officially opened the 10th Mozambique Mining and Energy Conference (MMEC) in May 2024, where Sasol was a leading sponsor. The event will return for its 11th edition from 7 to 8 May 2025 in Maputo, Mozambique.
