Mozambique Open for Business

Unlocking natural resources for industrialisation, diversification and inclusive growth

MMEC 2026 Reinforces Mozambique’s Position as a Regional Mining and Energy Powerhouse and plans ahead for MMEC 2027

Maputo was once again at the centre of Africa’s mining and energy conversation as the 12th Mozambique Mining and Energy Conference and Exhibition (MMEC 2026) brought together Ministers, industry leaders, investors, financiers, and innovators from across the continent and beyond on 06–07 May 2026.

Held under the theme “Mozambique Open for Business: Unlocking Natural Resources for Industrialisation, Diversification and Inclusive Growth,” this year’s edition captured the growing sense that Mozambique is entering a defining chapter in its economic and industrial journey. From LNG and critical minerals to power infrastructure, logistics, local content, and industrialisation, the discussions reflected a country increasingly seen as one of Africa’s most exciting growth and investment destinations.

Officially opened by His Excellency Daniel Francisco Chapo, President of the Republic of Mozambique, MMEC 2026 set a confident and forward-looking tone from the outset. In his address, the President highlighted the need to move beyond simply exporting resources and instead use Mozambique’s natural wealth to drive industrialisation, job creation, regional integration, and long-term prosperity for Mozambicans.

Over two packed days in Maputo, conversations were not just about future potential—they were about execution. Delegates explored how to accelerate major LNG and mining projects, strengthen regional energy connections, modernise infrastructure corridors, unlock financing, expand energy access, and create stronger local supply chains and industrial opportunities.

The event also highlighted Mozambique’s growing role as a regional gateway linking Southern Africa’s mining, power, logistics, and industrial markets. The participation of Ministers and senior representatives from Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Eswatini, and Tanzania reinforced the importance of cross-border partnerships and Africa-to-Africa collaboration in shaping the continent’s next phase of growth.

Organised by AME Trade Ltd and AME Mozambique, with the support of the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME) and co-organised by the Instituto Nacional de Petróleo (INP) and the National Mining Institute (INAMI), MMEC 2026 welcomed more than 600 participants from across Africa and international markets.

Beyond the conference sessions, MMEC 2026 delivered exactly what the industry has come to expect from the event: high-level networking, practical business discussions, new partnerships, and plenty of energy across the exhibition floor and networking functions. The MMEC 2026 Awards Ceremony was another standout moment, celebrating individuals and organisations helping shape the future of Mozambique’s mining and energy sectors.

What emerged clearly throughout the week was a growing confidence around Mozambique’s future. With major projects advancing, legal reforms underway, increasing regional cooperation, and a stronger focus on local value creation and sustainability, the country is positioning itself not just as a resource producer—but as a regional industrial and energy hub.

And the momentum is already continuing.

Preparations are now underway for the 13th Mozambique Mining and Energy Conference and Exhibition (MMEC 2027), which will return to Maputo on 12–13 May 2027.

We look forward to welcoming the industry back for another exciting edition as Mozambique continues to turn potential into progress.
